This landscape, dated 1882, presents a slice of nature, powerfully engaging the viewer in its unrivalled wealth of meadow and shrub greens and the liveliness of a sky in which dark and white clouds do battle. This is a rich, material painting in which the impasto does not attenuate but exalts the liveliness of the artist’s palette, with broad brushstrokes that solidly structure the forms.
The work is from the period initiated around 1880 by Delleani’s radical change of style after travelling to London and Paris. It provides a significant example of his contribution to the new Italian landscape painting of the later 19th century.
