Alessandro Salucci (Florence 1590 - Rome? shortly after 1650)

Salucci was born in Florence in 1590 and began training there before moving to Rome while still young. He soon began to work with well-established painters, specializing in imaginary architectural vedute.
In 1628 he helped to fresco the Casino Sacchetti (now Casino Chigi) at Castelfusano, working alongside Andrea Sacchi and Pietro da Cortona. In 1634 he became a member of the Accademia di San Luca and the following year painted important frescoes for the Church of Santa Maria in Vallicella.
He began to work with Jan Miel around 1535 and numerous paintings executed jointly by the two artists have been preserved to this day, for the most part in private collections. Landscape with Triumphal Arch and the Colosseum and Landscape with Rotunda in the Pallavicini Gallery in Rome (painted around 1650) are evidence that he collaborated in a similar way with Michelangelo Cerquozzi. Finally, in 1647-48 he painted a major cycle of frescoes in the Church of Sant’Elisabetta dei Fornari, which was destroyed in 1889. He died, probably in Rome, shortly after 1650.
