Description
This work was done towards the end of Dalbono’s artistic activity. It depicts fireworks illuminating the shoreline in the background, while in the foreground on the right there is a boat with passengers watching the spectacle.
The theme of fireworks is very often found in 19th-century painting in Europe. In Italy, the theme also appealed to Ippolito Caffi.
The painting was done towards the end of Dalbono’s life and exemplifies the link he established between a resumption of the style of Neapolitan painting initiated by Giacinto Gigante and an interest in the work of the Macchiaioli. Here, the bias is clearly towards the former.
